Engineering

Engineering graphics area set of rules and guide lines for creating engineering drawings. An engineering drawing is a drawing or series of drawings that convey an idea, design, schematic, or model. There are many different forms of engineering drawings.

Each engineering discipline has its own unique type of engineering drawing. For example, an electrical engineer draws schematics and circuit board layouts.

Civil engineers draw blue prints for bridges and roads. A mechanical engineer draws the parts and assemblies that need to be manufactured. It is not to say that learning engineering graphics is only beneficial for students taking a mechanical engineering curriculum.

Everyone benefits, from the weekend carpenter who wants to draw a blue print for a new book shelf to the electrical engineer who wants to analyze the cooling of electrical components using CAE programs. Engineering graphics teaches us how to visualize and see all aspects of an object in our minds. Being able to visualize in your head helps with several aspects of critical thinking.

About the Book

The book is divided into four sections: Chapters 1-3coverthe history of engineering graphics, hand sketching techniques, orthographic projection, third and first angle projection, multi-view drawings, dimensioning practices (ASME Y14.5-2009 standard), line types, fit types, tolerancing, Fasteners in general, generals crew notes, and the CAD history leading to the development of SOLIDWORKS.

Videos and SOLID WORKS Help are used to review individual functions, commands, and tools. Exercises in each chapter analyze and validate your ability to use the tools based on the chapter’s objectives. This manual is designed to complement the SOLIDWORKS tutorials found in the SOLIDWORKS Help menu.

It describes the required outcomes and use capabilities for each project. Know your objectives up front. Follow step-by-step instructions to achieve your design goals. Work through multiple documents, features, commands, and properties that represent how engineers and designers use SOLIDWORKS in industry.
